Book Title: Thirteen Reansons Why

Entry 1 Date:9/1/09 Summary:In the beginning this book it explains how a girl who killed herself manages to disturb the lives of the people she left behind from the grave. The first chapter talks about the person who was ordered to send a dreadful package full of tapes forward, and the pain he feels for bistowing this hurt onto another friend of his. The boy to recieve the box of seven tapes with thirteen sides named Clay is baffled when he discovers that he could have possibly had any part in this girls death. As he listens to the tapes and evaluates all that went on and how he was or wasnt a part of it he starts to wonder when his name will pop up and what the people who listened before him will think of him. But he continues to listen. Reaction: I was shocked that any girl could ever want to leave a legacy such as this one and That if i recieved a tape like this one i would not even be able to pretend like it was ok. Summary:After Clay reads the first part of the tapes he discovers that it may be a while before his name turned up. In the second side of tape one Hannah talks about a list that was made by a boy named Alex Standall. Alex had created a whose hot and whose not list that was circulating their class. Hannah was lucky enough to be on the hot side but was offended to discover that it was because of her butt. The girl on the not list was named Jessica and happened to be one of Hannah's only friends at the time, she was sad to learn that Jessica was mad at her. Hannah and Alex had been friends before this incident but when this occured they were no longer friends. This truely breaks Clays heart just knowing that he felt the list, looked at it, and even laughed while doing so. He felt as tho his name should have been said along with Alex's just becasue he saw it.
Reaction: If i had played any part in the list I would have felt terrible. But i also feel like Hannah may have over reacted just slightly, I do know that I would feel disgusted and hurt by this but it would be worse to be the girls in the "not" column and that should have been considered.

Summary:A boy named Tyler Down had a fasination with Hannah and he took it a little to the extreme. One night (a school night) while Hannah's parents are out of town Tyler shows up at Hannah's window but only she doesn't see him...at first. she is just laying on her bed doing her homework when all of a sudden she hears a CLICK. Hannah looks to see that no one is there and a little scared she goes and locks her front door. But as she sat layed back down on her bed she heard the click again. Again. And again, so after this continued for about another ten minutes she decided to tip-toe over to the window and pull up the curtain right as she does so she spots Tyler Down headed for the road. The next day at school Hannah tells her unnamed friend about what had happened the night before. Her friend suggested, assuming that he comes back that they make it "interesting". That night Hannah's parents were gone again, and again Tyler returned to find Hannah and another girl in her room. They heard the first three clicks and to really get him the unnamed friend gave Hannah a back rub. As the two girls did this the clicks were heard about every five seconds. Hannah's friend finally walks over to the window unseen by Tyler and finds him starring straight back at her and Hannah when the curtain comes up. Clay is angry as heck to learn what Tyler had done.
Reaction: If I knew that a boy in my school, let alone my class was peeping on me i would not do a repeat show I would say something and make it very clear that if it happened agian police would be called. That is not ok and the way that Hannah went about it shows a very poor character, i think.

Summary:Hannah tells a story about a girl named Courtney and how her mean ways hurt at a party she went to. She explains that Courtney just used her to look "nice" so when Hannah discovered this she came up with a plan and there was picture taken that was used in the yearbook. Clay follows the map to Tyler's house "the boy who took the pictures of Hannah" and there was a hole in his window where a rock had been thrown and standing outside his house was a boy Marcus. Marcus was holding a rock and Marcus looked at Clay and said "you have the tapes huh??"
Reaction: Why won't Clay ever stand up for himself and is too afraid to stand up for others and I don't understand why.

Summary:Marcus finnaly appears on the tapes when Hannah explains that she was his number one on a valentines survey. He was put into the story because he invited her to a Valentines dinner and then showed up an hour late and right as she was about to leave he charmed her into staying. He took to a booth way in the back and in no time he had wooed her but when he started to put the move on and she said no he didn't stop she had to push him off the booth just so she could leave.
Reaction: If i were Hannah i would have made a scene in the first place if he refused to get off that way it would get peoples attention more and he would have been forced to stop. I think that next Hannah is going to talk about where and how Clay plays into her little story.

Summary: Clay takes a break from listening when his mom calls to see where Clay is he tells her by a resturaunt and he asks her to bring him the rest of the tapes. After asking her this and hanging up he is filled with nerves that his mother would listen to one of the tapes and know what Clay had done. As he is sitting waiting for his mom he remembers about how him and Hannah worked at the movie theater together and how protective of her he was but and how nice Hannah was. Clay just couldnt figure out what he could have ever done to be apart of all the tapes.
Reaction: I feel so bad for Clay he is such a weird place because he was one of the few people who never meant to hurt or violate Hannah and yet he feels as though he has wronged her and he isnt dealing with it very well. Plus he really really liked her and for him to think that she just thought he was a jerk just makes matters even worse than they already are.

Summary:Hannah starts to talk about how even though the people mention in the tapes are the ones that pushed her over the edge, she would have commited suicide sooner or later. She talks about how she never felt right living here and how ever since she moved she just never felt accepted...except by Clay. She talks about how Clay never really hurt her but how the only way for the tapes to work was if Clay was involved in them. Clay feels confused, not releaved and still kind of hurt at the fact that Hannah the girl he loved would put him through this.
Reaction:I wonder what Hannah thought was going to happen after all these tapes got out. I also want to know if she knew that Clay liked her or not?

Summary: Hannah has to write a poem at shcool and she chooses to write about how she feels lost and lonely and hides that its about her by using her mother as the character. This boy in her class named Ryan sees right through her and tells her that he know that something is wrong and that he knows that the poem was about her issues. Hannah gets really defensive and chooses to tell Ryan off but deep down she is scared that Ryan will tell someone and that she will be on suicide watch. After listening to this part of the tpae Clay runs into Ryan and just asks him how he is holding up and how he is doing. Ryan is doing terrible and feels that because he didn't tell an adult about Hannah's poem that he is the reason Hannah is dead. Clay feels terrible and has to comfort Clay by letting him know that Hannah would have done this either way.
Reaction:I just can't get over how mad I am at Hannah for all that she is putting these poor kids through, it was hard enough to lose a classmate and a friend but then to hear her voice telling you that you are a reason why i would go crazy and i would not be abe to deal with my emotions. I just really hope that all of these truely do realize that although they had wronged Hannah this was something that started deep within Hannah and could not have been controlled by them.

Summary:Hannah just once again explains to everyone that she feels that this will better the lives of everyone and that this is just what she wants to do. She talks about how unhappy she is and how she hates her parents and how noone could stop her. She just flat out does not want to live anymore and she feels like therepy or something like that could only make matter even more worse than they already are. The last thing that she says is that every person should feel responsible for playing some part in her death but that the biggest factor was the "bitch" insude herself.
Raction:I just couldnt believe that she came right out and said that everyone should feel responsible for her death. Although she did say that she was the deciding factor i know that those words would only continue to replay in my head over and over agian.

Summary:Clay just talks about his life after the tapes and how although it stills hurts him every day to think about Hannah he knows that this is the way she wanted it to be. He did send the tapes off to Joey but he also put a note that said that he was terribly sorry but that he had a right to know and that i will all get better. On the month aniversary of Hannahs death Clay broke down and cried and screamed up at Hannah in absolute disgust but there was nothing that Hannah could've done to ever make Clay stop liking her. He still loved her and he does sometimes wish that he would have told her how he felt, just to see if they could have ever shared anything more than just a kiss. Clay is just living day to day and trying to live as normally as possible, and everytime that he passes someone who was mentioned on the tape he always gives them a nice sympothetic smile.
Reaction:I love Clay!! He is such a great guy and I love that he can have so much love for some one who never did and never will love him. I love that he is so helpful to those around him and that he still tries to keep it real. Clay is just a great person and I love how real and honest his emotions are.
